Is It Only Me Or Are We All Crazy?

Is It Only Me Or Are We All Crazy?

Once again there's good news for those of us who love to laugh at the state of the world and its intrinsic design. Lee provides hilarious commentary on a vast array of subjects ranging dating and romance in the technology driven era to the absurdities we see every night on the evening news.

Serious thought about ridiculous subjects can often be the best way to add desperately needed levity to a world that can often take itself way too seriously. A world we now find ourselves living in. If you are prepared to get a little dirt on you as Lee takes you on a satirical journey, you will enjoy the guilty pleasures contained within this book.

Such A Heavy Burden: Based on a true murder trial

Such A Heavy Burden:

Based on a true murder trial

Shayna’s life was forever changed when she got the jury summons in the mail. Everything happened so fast when she walked into the courtroom. Almost immediately, she was sequestered on a murder trial. It was the most brutal, cold-blooded murder to occur in the Chattanooga area. Anna Lee Richie was a very pretty, 21-year-old law firm secretary, engaged to be married. She reportedly met Ronny briefly at a party. Two weeks later, she was dead. Ronny Andrew Sawyer did not have an easy life. He ran with the wrong crowd, older than him, and he fell into the world of alcohol and drugs. He was an 18-year-old ‘dead end kid’. Ronny’s friend reportedly suggested they burglarize some houses. Ronny chose the Richie home. He had been there before with his friend, who dated Anna Lee’s stepsister. Ronny had drank beer and shot pool in that home. He knew the layout. Ronny showed up at the house around 2:00 a.m., wasted drunk, to steal the lawnmower in the carport. But Anna Lee heard a noise and she came outside in her negligee. Now facing death in the electric chair, Ronny was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated rape, aggravated arson, armed robbery, and grand larceny. The defense argued diminished capacity due to severe intoxication. The police had a signed confession from Ronny. He gave a full statement about what happened at that house for the five hours he was there. Defense council was convinced the police officers coached him and rehearsed the statement to fit their theory of what happened. Was Ronny a scapegoat for the police looking to quickly prosecute a young girl’s killer? Shayna did not want to serve on this jury. It took four grueling days for jury selection and she was sequestered on the very first day. The trial lasted eleven days. Thirty-three years later, the nightmares still wake her up at night.

Mothermare: A Mothercare Nightmare

Mothermare: A Mothercare Nightmare

Money brings power. Power brings success. Show us your wealth or shove off. These were the rules of the haves versus have nots society Victoria Allen grew up in. What happens when the spoils no longer cut it? Mothermare takes us into the dark place where bitterness grows. A bitterness that is born not of a life without want but a life without fulfillment. Victoria Allen knows that the untold riches of her childhood will never cover the scars of pain and neglect. The scars that reveal themselves as a deep, powerful resentment toward her mother. The scars that will lead to a choice to abandon the supposed safety and security of her affluent upbringing. The scars sparked a rebellion, urging her to become a mother herself as she decides to raise her daughter in a poverty-stricken household. Victoria’s seemingly noble decision quickly goes awry, leading to chaos as she embarks on her journey of motherhood. This mothercare nightmare, Mothermare, is a story of determination, tragedy, and the invaluable lessons learned about life, family, and the impacts of classism.

Omar: Man of Words

I write here as an author now three times over, whose works have touched people of all stripes from places far and wide. I was not always this way. I used to suffer in silence, not confident enough to articulate myself. I am not silent anymore. I used to be powerless, voiceless, and aimless. Now my voice is powerful and my mission clear. Were it not for the education in words and experience I fought to pursue I would still be a slave to fear confused as to my purpose in life. Here I share the story of that change, to offer knowledge where ignorance abounds and hope where there is nothing but despair. The poems in this collection might make you mad enough to think, they might make you laugh, you might even shed a teardrop but by the end of this book, I am sure you won’t be able to say ... that I lied to you.

Excerpt from the book, a poem titled, "If"

what if i told you

one night

i saw lights

what if
that night

i made a wish
took a vow
whispered this promise

that if
i see stars

all my life
people told me
didn't exist

what if
i found out for myself
what else
is out there
outside of this
inner city

i had a vision !

a list
of aspirations
barack obama
wrote me a letter saying
remember the founding promise of this nation

if
you reach for your highest goals
in the process
you will
inspire others to do the same

though right now
it seems impossible

to win

you can face the odds
if

david faced off against goliath
a giant
twice his size
right then
i decided

if

all men are made of the same carbon
if
my grandmother came to this country
without a mother or a father
and she didn't quit
no matter how much mud
she had to shovel
if

i could do things differently
what's never been
in the history of this family

yes
if
i can

get rich
off a business
make an impact
that will live on

like phil knight did
out of his trunk
if
jobs and wozniak did
if malcolm x did
if
nelson mandela did it
after being in prison
if victor frankl
survived the concentration camp
then certainly
i can

do it

like bebop did it
if
hip hop did it
i said
if
rappers could make millions off words
this craft
could
be my passport to explore the planet
if

i give it my best
map out a plan and take action

if i practice confidence
walk with purpose and conviction
if
i hop on this train
and start talking
if
i see somebody blink or cough in my direction

if
i stay focused in preparation
until the day comes
for me
to make my mark
if i
take these thoughts in my brain and put them down on paper
if i
get creative and make a book
put books in this bag
if
when push comes to shove
i put the bag on my back
and my foot to the pavement
in the black of night
with the stars still in the sky
i was grinding to sell a thousand copies independent

because

one night

i made
a wish
took a vow
whispered this promise
